In the past few months of economic turmoil, we have been hearing about corrections in the housing and stock markets. But are we going to see a correction in the aftermarket?
At the speed of right

For those of you who think it's your God-given right to drive what you want, when you want, where you want and as fast as you want, this would be the time to get your thesaurus out to find every name in the book that you want to call me. At the risk of being called a threat to the American way of life, I am asking this industry to actively support a review of the most efficient speed limit. And if the outcome of such a review is to roll back the speed limit to 55 mph, then so be it.
Trademark battle stuck in park

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) appears nervous about the growing number of design patents it is awarding to auto manufacturers. Many of the patents cover collision parts, but the USPTO also grants design patents for items such as exterior mirrors and wheel covers, among other items sold in every auto aftermarket retail store in the U.S. The unease surfacing in the PTO was reflected during two meetings earlier this year when the floor was opened to discuss its policies on automotive design patents.

Ford turning truck body shop into small-vehicle production plant

Ford Motor Company reports that it will invest $75 million in Michigan Truck Plant's body shop to prepare for small-vehicle production. The plant will begin converting its body shop in November when the tooling and equipment specific to the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator will be disassembled and transferred to Kentucky Truck Plant, which begins producing the large SUVs in the second quarter of 2009.
